Cusco Trekkings
5 Days & 4 Nights
Considered by National Geographic as one of the best treks in the world, the Salkantay Trail is the perfect alternative for travelers seeking an authentic, challenging, and deeply enriching experience to reach Machu Picchu. This route, which combines the majesty of the Andes with the exuberance of the high jungle, will take you through dreamlike landscapes, from imposing glaciers to tropical valleys.
The highlight of this adventure is the Salkantay Pass, located at 4,650 meters above sea level, where you will closely contemplate the imposing Salkantay snow-capped peak (6,271 m a.s.l.), one of the most venerated sacred mountains (apus) of the region. But the magic does not end there: the descent towards the high jungle will reward you with panoramic views of jungle valleys, waterfalls, and surprising biodiversity.
With Belen Travel Agency, the Salkantay Trek becomes a comprehensive experience where adventure, culture, and nature intertwine to offer you memories that will last a lifetime.
Welcome to the Salkantay Route
Note: No hiking today! It is a night for preparation and acclimatization.

Personal Equipment (Essential):

Hygiene and Health Items:
Other Useful Items:
Physical Preparation and Health:
Backpack restriction in Machu Picchu: Remember that inside Machu Picchu, backpacks larger than 40 liters are not permitted (some sources indicate 25 liters). You must leave your large backpack at the hotel in Aguas Calientes and take only a small backpack for the visit.
Acclimatization: It is mandatory to have spent at least 2 full days in Cusco before starting the trek.
Physical condition: Do preparatory hikes beforehand. The Salkantay Trek is demanding due to the altitude and long distances.
It is a multi-day trek of moderate to demanding difficulty, with long days and altitude. Good physical condition and prior acclimatization in Cusco are recommended.
We recommend arriving in Cusco 1 or 2 days early to acclimatize, staying hydrated, eating light and avoiding alcohol the day before. Coca tea helps and, if you are sensitive, you can bring altitude-sickness pills ("Soroche Pills"), available at any pharmacy.
Depending on the itinerary, accommodation may be in equipped campsites or lodges. Check the "Includes" section of the tour for details.
Layered trekking clothing, a waterproof jacket, boots, a sleeping bag (ask us if we provide it), a headlamp, sunscreen, toiletries and cash in soles for extras.
The dry season (April to October) offers sunny days and the best trails. November to March is rainier, but the scenery is greener and there are fewer visitors.
Yes, you can adapt the experience to your needs: choose the time that suits you best and decide whether you prefer a private guide just for your group or a shared service. Write to us and we will tailor the itinerary for you.
We recommend booking at least 2 to 4 weeks ahead, and even earlier during high season (June to August), when spots sell out quickly.
Changes and cancellations may be subject to deadlines and fees depending on the service booked. Write to us to review your case and find the best solution.
